Let's Continue McKinley's Legacy

Our Mission

The primary mission of The William Thomas McKinley Foundation for American Music is to support and maintain the musical legacy of American composer William Thomas McKinley through the networking, publishing, distribution, and recording of his music. Further, the Foundation will work with various partners, such as the Boston Public Library, to maintain and expand the reach of an archive of McKinley’s music, writings, and artifacts. A further mission of the Foundation is one of educational outreach: To support younger generations of American composers through the establishment and maintenance of educational scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships. This educational mission will also honor and acknowledge the enduring legacy of McKinley’s many years as a loved and respected teacher of music during his lifetime.

With a  solid understanding of classical music theories allows musicians to be true masters of their art. Dr. Tom McKinley facilitates that understanding as a professor, composer, and performer.

The Alba Music Composition Program

The Alba Music Composition Program takes place in Alba, Italy, nestled in the foothills of the Alps, during the annual Alba International Music Festival. For a little over one week at the end of each May, a select group of eight (8) to twelve (12) composer participants, chosen by a panel of professional composers, descend on this small, picturesque town, and works one-on-one with distinguished faculty, composer-in-residence, and has their music performed and recorded by a top-flight resident professional ensemble.
